WINNR vs Unchaind (2026): Unchaind Review and Comparison

WINNR vs Unchaind, checked October 2026. Prices, store ratings, what Unchaind collects and shares, who Rocapine is, and who should pick which app.

Prices, ratings and privacy details checked on 25 October 2026.

The short answer: pick Unchaind if your faith is central to how you want to deal with porn. It is a Christian app built around scripture, daily prayer and an AI Bible companion, and you can download it tonight. Pick WINNR if you want a secular, science-based app that keeps your data in the EU, keeps your full history after a slip, and gives you a path to a real psychologist at a price a student can pay. WINNR launches on iOS and Android in December 2026, so until then it is a waiting list, not an app on your phone.

WINNR publishes this comparison. We have tried to be fair; every claim about Unchaind links to its source, and we apply the same privacy, pricing and evidence questions to ourselves as to Unchaind.

Unchaind review: what it is and how it works

Who makes it

Unchaind is sold by Rocapine on the App Store and Google Play, where the developer address is 5 Rue Gerando, 75009 Paris, France. According to The Next Web (16 June 2026), Rocapine is a wellness venture studio founded in late 2024 by Stanislas Marchand (chief executive), Jean-Gabriel Boinot-Tramoni and Sammy Teillet, with a 13 million dollar Series A led by Educapital. The app launched on 5 February 2025, per Screensdesign. Dealroom lists it as co-developed with Singapore-based Applo and acquired by Rocapine in July 2026. The about page names nobody.

How it works

You answer a quiz about frequency, first exposure, faith and temptation, get a custom plan, press and hold through a five-step pledge, and reach the paywall, per a walkthrough on Screensdesign. Inside, the core features, per the homepage and the App Store description, are:

  • AI Bible companion. A chat you can open at any hour; you describe the urge and get a scripture-based reply and a prayer. The terms say it should not replace pastoral or professional guidance.
  • Daily devotionals. A short personalised Bible reading each day, plus audio prayers.
  • Check-ins, streak and milestones. Daily check-ins feed a streak and a slip-risk dashboard. Day 1 is "Firstfruit", day 90 "Unchained", day 365 "Victorious".
  • Content blocker. Built on iOS Screen Time; filters explicit sites across browsers. Blocking chosen apps requires the Max tier.
  • Panic button. One tap for a prayer, a verse and the community.
  • Community, journal and sharing. A feed for prayer requests, an encrypted journal, and since version 1.14.0 the option to share a milestone with supporters, showing only the day count.

It runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 or later), Apple Silicon Macs, Apple Vision and Android, in ten languages.

What Unchaind says about itself

The homepage claims a 4.8 rating from 19,000 or more reviews, 110,000 or more users, that 92 percent feel stronger in their faith after 30 days, and that 94 percent recommend it. No method is published for the percentages, and the review count is far below the 44,000 ratings the App Store showed on 25 October 2026. The same test applies to WINNR: it has no user count or outcome figure to publish, and says so.

Unchaind pricing, free trial and ratings (as of October 2026)

Unchaind has no pricing page. The homepage FAQ says plans start at 6.99 US dollars a month. The US App Store shows eleven in-app purchases, most with no billing period named:

Plan (US App Store, October 2026)Price
PRO Subscription (period not named)6.99, 7.99, 17.99 or 39.99 US dollars
PRO Monthly Subscription14.99 or 17.99 US dollars
PRO Yearly Subscription49.99 US dollars
Max Monthly8.99 US dollars

The Screensdesign walkthrough shows weekly, quarterly and monthly plans on the paywall, with a countdown timer. So the 6.99 and 7.99 dollar entries are probably weekly, matching a July 2026 Google Play reviewer who mentioned about 8 dollars a week. We could not confirm this. On the UK App Store, yearly is 24.99 or 34.99 pounds and monthly 9.99 pounds. "Unchaind Max" is not a separate app; it is the higher tier listed as "Max Monthly" at 8.99 dollars, needed for app blocking.

No free trial is mentioned anywhere by the provider. Reviewers in 2025 and 2026 describe paying before using anything; whether that screen can be dismissed is not stated.

On cancellation the sources disagree. The terms say app store settings; the support page says a web portal. A September 2026 App Store reviewer said it was only possible by email and took about two months; the developer apologised.

Store ratings, checked 25 October 2026:

  • App Store (US): 4.8 stars from 44,000 ratings. Age rating 16+. Version 1.14.0, released the week before we checked.
  • Google Play: 4.7 stars from about 19,900 reviews, 100K+ downloads. Content rating 3+. Last updated 11 July 2026.
  • Trustpilot: no profile found. Too small to use.

Note the gap: Apple says 16+, Google 3+, and the terms set a minimum age of 13.

WINNR, for the same test: 9 euro a month or 49 euro a year, published on winnr.now. The first 100 waiting-list members pay 29 euro for the first year. No free tier, but the check and the plan are free. No store ratings yet, because the app is not in the stores until December 2026.

Privacy and data

Both apps ask you to type in things you may never have said out loud. The same five questions for each.

Unchaind

What is collected. The privacy policy (updated 17 March 2026) lists your email and display name; check-in history, streak data and app interaction patterns; journal entries, stored encrypted; your AI Bible companion conversations; and device details. The App Store privacy label, declared by the developer, goes further: identifiers, usage data and "Sensitive Info" under data used to track you, and device ID and product interaction under third-party advertising. The Google Play data-safety summary adds location, which the policy does not mention, and says device IDs are shared.

Who can see it. The policy names no processor, only unnamed cloud hosting and payment processors. No analytics, advertising or AI vendor is named, even though the App Store label declares third-party advertising and onboarding opens with a tracking permission prompt.

Where it is stored. Not stated. No country, region or server location is named, and GDPR and international transfers are not mentioned. The company is in Paris and about 70 percent of its revenue comes from the United States according to The Next Web, so your data may sit on either side of the Atlantic.

Retention and deletion. No retention period is given beyond "minimal data retention policies". You can ask for access, deletion or export by email at unchaind@rocapine.com; no response time is promised and no in-app delete button is described. No data protection officer is named.

Reported incident. None found as of 25 October 2026. That is a search result, not a guarantee.

WINNR

What is collected. The privacy notice (updated 4 July 2026, pending legal review) lists your email, a display handle, subscription status and a Stripe customer reference; and, as special-category data, your questionnaire answers, goals, urge events, counter history, journal entries, community posts, partner messages and AI coach messages. No card details are stored. The website uses no cookies or IP logging.

Who can see it. Supabase (database and sign-in, AWS Stockholm), Hetzner (hosting, Germany), Brevo (email, France), Stripe (payments, US and Ireland), Google (only if you use Google sign-in). If you opt in to the AI coach, your coach messages are processed by OpenRouter with a DeepSeek model in the United States, under zero-retention terms and standard contractual clauses. That is the honest exception to "EU only"; you can use WINNR without the coach.

Where it is stored. EU servers, with the AI coach exception above.

Retention and deletion. Kept while your account is open; unused accounts are deleted after 12 months; payment records are kept seven years under Dutch tax law. You can delete everything from Settings, actioned immediately, and export your coach data. Other requests go to winnr.now@gmail.com, answered within a month. No DPO yet; Chino.io is to be appointed at launch.

Reported incident. None. WINNR has not launched, so this is a promise, not a track record.

Who is behind it

Unchaind

Rocapine, a venture-funded app studio in Paris with teams in Nantes and Barcelona, led by Stanislas Marchand, Jean-Gabriel Boinot-Tramoni and Sammy Teillet. Its other apps named by The Next Web are Harmony (a cycle tracker) and That Girl, and it plans to test up to 400 apps this year. Nobody on the Unchaind pages is named as a pastor, counsellor or psychologist, and the terms say the app is not a substitute for medical, psychological or psychiatric treatment. Support is by email.

WINNR

WINNR is made by Stichting Extraordinary Life (KvK 75069385), a Dutch foundation in Rotterdam. The founder is NJ (Nicolaas van Disseldorp), a coach and researcher. The team of six includes a CTO, a founding engineer, a lead writer with a background in work and organisational psychology, and two practical-interventions consultants, one from health psychology and one who previously built group-therapy protocols at a treatment centre. Bios are at winnr.now/about.html. WINNR won Impacthon (PLNT, Leiden) in September 2026. It is not a treatment, therapy, medical device or crisis service either. Contact: winnr.now@gmail.com.

What real users say about Unchaind

We read recent reviews on the US App Store, the UK App Store and Google Play on 25 October 2026. Paraphrased themes, not quotes.

Recurring praise

  • It keeps faith at the centre. Google Play reviewers in October 2025 and UK App Store reviewers in June and July 2026 said it kept them focused on God.
  • The community and Bible resources. An August 2026 App Store reviewer who could not keep the app open still praised both.
  • Developer replies are frequent and personal.

Recurring complaints

  • Paying before you start. A July 2026 Play reviewer objected to being asked for roughly 40 dollars a month before seeing anything; a June 2026 Play reviewer, aged 17, could not afford a weekly fee; June 2026 and July 2025 App Store reviewers asked why a faith tool costs money. The developer replied that the subscription funds a small team.
  • Cancellation. The September 2026 reviewer above waited about two months.
  • Bugs and accessibility. An August 2026 App Store reviewer said the app kept returning to the home screen; a June 2026 Play reviewer with a visual impairment found the light grey text hard to read.
  • Thin content for the price. The July 2026 Play reviewer felt the notifications were irregular and light on scripture.

The practical difference tonight is simple: Unchaind exists on your phone and WINNR does not yet. The difference over a year is whether you want scripture or psychology as the frame, where your journal lives, whether a slip wipes your streak, and whether you can reach a real psychologist from inside the app.

Neither app sends reports to a spouse or mentor. If that is what you want, Covenant Eyes is built around it.

What the research says

Be careful with every company's claims, ours included. A 2022 content analysis in JMIR Formative Research reviewed 170 apps for problematic pornography use and found that none cited direct evidence of effectiveness or safety. That is true of Unchaind, whose percentages come with no method, and it is true of WINNR. WINNR's science page says so plainly: the evidence concerns the methods, nobody has yet checked whether WINNR itself works, and a controlled study is planned after launch.

WINNR builds on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with CBT elements, self-monitoring with goal setting and feedback, and if-then plans; the screener is the PPCS-6. The team also draws on the Dual Control Model of sexual response (Bancroft and Janssen) as a model to design around, not as proof that WINNR works. Unchaind's approach is spiritual rather than psychological, and it does not claim otherwise.

For many Christians, prayer, scripture and a community of believers are not a feature set but the point. Nothing here argues against that. It only says that no app, faith-based or secular, has yet shown in a study that it works.

When WINNR is the better choice

  • You want a secular app, or psychology rather than scripture as the frame.
  • You want to know where your journal is stored and who processes it, with a delete button that works immediately.
  • You have slipped before and a streak going back to zero is part of why you gave up.
  • You want a trained human, not only an AI, and you cannot pay therapy prices.
  • You want a fixed, published price in euro, with no countdown timer.
  • You can wait until December 2026, or you want to join now at the founding price.

When Unchaind is the better choice

  • Your faith is central and you want prayer, devotionals and an AI that answers with scripture. WINNR does not offer this and will not.
  • You need an app tonight, with a blocker and a panic button already working.
  • You want one of its ten languages, or an iPad or Mac. WINNR is English only and phone only.
  • You like named milestones and a community that shares prayer requests.
  • You want thousands of recent ratings behind your choice.

If faith is not part of the picture and you want a secular app today, see our winnr vs quittr comparison.

How to switch from Unchaind, or use both

If you are moving to WINNR

  1. Join the WINNR waiting list at winnr.now by taking the free 4-minute check. Your place and founding price are reserved by email.
  2. Export what matters from Unchaind. Copy your journal entries, or request an export from unchaind@rocapine.com, before you delete anything.
  3. Cancel at the source. Through Apple, in iOS Settings under Subscriptions; through Google, in Play subscriptions; if you paid on the web, via the support page portal. Deleting the app does not cancel billing.
  4. Delete your Unchaind account. Email unchaind@rocapine.com and ask for deletion of all your data, including AI companion conversations, with written confirmation.
  5. Keep a blocker in the gap. Until December, use Screen Time's adult-site limit on iPhone or Private DNS with a family filter on Android. Our best porn blocker apps guide covers the free options.

If you want to use both

  • Unchaind for the devotionals, the prayer and the panic button.
  • WINNR for the counter that keeps your history, the partner, and the psychologist sessions once they open.
  • Pick one app as your official counter so one slip does not become two broken streaks.
  • Decide what you type into each, knowing that one tells you where it keeps it and the other does not.

Key takeaways

  • Unchaind is a live, well-rated Christian app (4.8 App Store from 44,000 ratings, 4.7 Google Play from about 19,900) with devotionals, an AI Bible companion, a blocker and a panic button; yearly is 49.99 US dollars.
  • Its privacy policy names no processor, server location or retention period, and its App Store label declares sensitive info as used for tracking.
  • Rocapine, the Paris studio behind it, is venture funded; no pastor, counsellor or psychologist is named.
  • WINNR costs 9 euro a month or 49 euro a year, keeps data in the EU except for opt-in AI coach messages, keeps your history after a slip, and is secular.
  • WINNR is not in the stores until December 2026, its social-media blur and psychologist access are in development, and it has no outcome data, like every app in this category.

FAQ

Is Unchaind free?

No. Reviewers describe a paywall before first use and no free trial is mentioned. As of October 2026 the US App Store lists yearly at 49.99 dollars, monthly at 14.99 or 17.99 dollars, and a Max tier at 8.99 dollars a month.

Is Unchaind legit?

Yes, in the sense that matters: a real app from a Paris company, Rocapine, with a street address on Google Play, 44,000 App Store ratings and regular updates. The weak points are on paper: a privacy policy that names no processor or server location, an App Store label that declares sensitive info as used for tracking, and a cancellation process one reviewer found slow.

Is Unchaind worth it?

If you are a Christian and want scripture, prayer and a believing community around your check-ins, most reviewers say yes. If you are not, you are paying for content you will skip. The recurring complaints are the price, paying before you can try it, and cancellation.

Does Unchaind block porn?

Yes, on iPhone through Screen Time: it filters explicit sites across browsers. Blocking specific apps requires the Max tier. No blocker is perfect.

Is WINNR better than Unchaind?

It depends on the frame you want. Unchaind is faith-first and available today. WINNR is secular, keeps data in the EU, keeps your history after a slip, and will offer psychologist sessions, but not until December 2026. Neither has published evidence that it works.

Is my data safe with Unchaind?

Unchaind says journal entries are encrypted. It does not say where your data is stored, how long it is kept or who processes it, and its App Store label declares identifiers, usage data and sensitive info as used to track you. We found no reported incident. Decide what you are willing to type in.
