WINNR vs BlockerX (2026): BlockerX Review and Comparison
WINNR vs BlockerX, checked October 2026. BlockerX prices on the site and in the stores, ratings, where your data goes, and who should pick which.
Prices, ratings and privacy details checked on 25 October 2026.
The short answer: pick BlockerX if your main problem is access and you need a blocker that covers your phone, laptop and browser tonight, with a buddy who must approve switching it off. Pick WINNR if your main problem is the urge itself, you want your data kept in the EU, and you want a path to a real psychologist at a price a student can pay. WINNR launches on iOS and Android in December 2026, so until then it is a waiting list, not an app on your phone.
WINNR publishes this comparison. We have tried to be fair; every claim about BlockerX links to its source, and we apply the same privacy, pricing and evidence questions to ourselves as to BlockerX.

BlockerX review: what it is and how it works
Who makes it
BlockerX is published by Atmana Tech FZCO, a free-zone company in the United Arab Emirates. The privacy policy, the terms of usage and the Google Play listing all give IFZA Properties, Dubai Silicon Oasis, as the address. The Y Combinator page names Tejas Bala as founder, Summer 2021 batch, founded in 2020, team of eight. We found no about page; the only contact is support@blockerx.org.
How it works
BlockerX is a blocker first. You install it, grant permissions (on iPhone that includes VPN access, per the iPhone page), switch on the porn filter and add anything else you want blocked. According to the homepage, the Android page and the Chrome extension page:
- One-click porn blocker. Over 2 million adult sites per the homepage body, over 3 million per its page description. Free users get a limited number of custom sites, keywords and apps; premium removes the limit.
- Network-level and in-app blocking (premium, Android). All browsers and chosen apps, with safe search forced.
- Add Buddy. An accountability partner whose permission is needed to disable the blocker. On Android premium, the buddy gets a daily email listing blocked sites.
- Uninstall protection (Android) and uninstall notification (iOS, Chrome). Your buddy is emailed when you try to remove it.
- Panic Switch (premium). Cuts internet access for 15 or 30 minutes.
- Community, articles and video courses. The product pages claim over 100,000 active community users.
- Codi. An AI chat that, per the privacy policy, runs on Google Gemini, OpenAI or similar models.
- Desktop apps. The Windows app blocks incognito mode, unsupported browsers, emulators and Google Lens; the macOS app adds a strict mode and daily reports.
The download page lists iOS, Android, Chrome, macOS and Windows. The App Store listing offers English plus 24 other languages.
What BlockerX says about itself
The homepage calls BlockerX the number one porn blocker and promises "scientifically proven methods", with no study cited. It says 92 percent of premium subscribers noted less porn use within three months; the Android page says 92 percent reported better focus, sleep, energy and relationships within six months. No method is given for either. The same test applies to WINNR: it has no user count or outcome figure to publish.

Sources: the premium page, the iPhone, Android and Chrome pages, and the App Store listing. The website shows a dollar sign without naming a currency.
Three things to check before you pay:
- Which platforms your plan covers. No BlockerX page we opened says whether one subscription unlocks all five platforms, and the App Store sells a separate "Mac Premium Plus" item. Ask support in writing first.
- The trial length. The premium page says 1 day, then automatic renewal; the FAQ page says 3 days.
- Refunds. The terms say only lifetime is refundable, within 3 days. Cancel renewal by email or inside the Android app; on iOS, use your Apple subscription settings.
Store ratings, checked 25 October 2026:
- App Store (US), BlockerX: 4.4 stars from 8,300 ratings. Age rating 18+. Updated 11 September 2026.
- App Store (US), BlockerX Pro, a separate Atmana app: 4.1 stars from 367 ratings.
- Google Play: 4.4 stars from about 317,000 reviews, 5 million+ downloads, rated Teen. Updated 20 October 2026.
- Chrome Web Store: 4.6 stars from 2,600 ratings, 100,000 users. Updated 16 October 2026.
- Trustpilot: five reviews. Too small to use.
WINNR, for the same test: 9 euro a month or 49 euro a year, published on winnr.now. The first 100 waiting-list members pay 29 euro for the first year. No free tier. No store ratings yet, because the app is not in the stores until December 2026.
Privacy and data
A blocker sees what you tried to open, when, and on which device. Here is what each company says it does with that, using the same five questions.
BlockerX
What is collected. The privacy policy (effective 1 July 2021, updated 2 September 2026) lists your name, email, password, settings and billing details; usage data stored on BlockerX's servers; analytics data; support correspondence; your buddy's email address; and, through the Pollfish survey SDK, your advertising ID and device ID. If you use Codi, your chat content is collected. The App Store privacy label declares purchases, identifiers and usage data as "data used to track you". The Google Play data safety summary says personal info, app performance data and device IDs are shared with third parties.
Who can see it. Google Play services, Firebase, Mixpanel, Pollfish, and, for Codi, Google (Gemini) and OpenAI or similar providers. Pollfish may share survey data with its own clients for commercial purposes; the policy links to an opt-out. Your buddy receives reports of your device activity by email.
Where it is stored. Not stated. The company is in Dubai, the named analytics and AI providers are US companies, and the policy does not mention GDPR, standard contractual clauses or international transfers.
Retention and deletion. No retention period is stated except for Codi chats, kept as long as reasonably necessary. The only deletion route described is emailing support to remove Codi history; the Google Play listing says you can request deletion. No data protection officer is named. The policy says the service is not knowingly offered to children, then says it is intended for under-18s only with parental involvement, while the terms require users to be 18.
Reported incident. In September 2021, TechNadu reported that researcher Jeremiah Fowler had found an unprotected BlockerX database on Amazon Web Services on 2 August 2021, holding 121,624 records, about 72,000 of them user records, including community posts in plain text, usernames, email addresses and screenshots. The company secured it within hours of being notified; how long it had been open is not known. We include this because it shows why the storage and retention questions matter, not because a misconfiguration fixed five years ago says anything about the app today.
WINNR
What is collected. The privacy notice (updated 4 July 2026, marked as pending legal review) lists your email, a display handle, subscription status and a Stripe customer reference; and, treated as special-category data, your questionnaire answers, goals, urge events, counter history, journal entries, community posts, partner messages and AI coach messages. No card details are stored. The website uses no cookies or IP logging.
Who can see it. Supabase (database and sign-in, AWS Stockholm), Hetzner (hosting, Germany), Brevo (email, France), Stripe (payments, US and Ireland), Google (only if you choose Google sign-in). If you opt in to the AI coach, your coach messages are processed by OpenRouter with a DeepSeek model in the United States, under zero-retention terms and standard contractual clauses. That is the honest exception to "EU only", and you can use WINNR without the coach. Nobody receives reports about you: no partner monitoring, screenshot reports or activity emails.
Where it is stored. EU servers, with the AI coach exception above.
Retention and deletion. Kept while your account is open; unused accounts deleted after 12 months; payment records kept seven years under Dutch tax law. Delete everything from Settings, actioned immediately; export your coach data. Other requests go to winnr.now@gmail.com, one-month response. No DPO yet; Chino.io will be appointed at launch. Complaints go to the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Reported incident. None. WINNR has not launched, so this line is a policy, not a track record.
Who is behind it
BlockerX
Atmana Tech FZCO, Dubai, founded in 2020 by Tejas Bala and backed by Y Combinator (Summer 2021). The terms are governed by UAE law, with Delaware named as the venue for disputes. Support is by email only; the developer replies to store reviews, usually within days.
WINNR
WINNR is made by Stichting Extraordinary Life (KvK 75069385), a Dutch foundation in Rotterdam. The founder is NJ (Nicolaas van Disseldorp), a coach and researcher. The team of six includes a CTO, a founding engineer, a lead writer with a background in work and organisational psychology, and two practical-interventions consultants, one of whom previously built group-therapy protocols at a treatment centre. Bios are at winnr.now/about.html. WINNR won Impacthon (PLNT, Leiden) in September 2026. Contact is winnr.now@gmail.com.
What real users say about BlockerX
We read recent reviews on the App Store and Google Play on 25 October 2026. These are paraphrased themes, not quotes, and store reviews are self-selected. The newest reviews the stores showed us date from 2025.
Recurring praise
- The blocking itself. A September 2025 App Store reviewer of BlockerX Pro, a year in, said the filter did its job. An August 2025 Google Play reviewer liked that it blocked Instagram search and Reels.
- A real first step. A July 2024 App Store reviewer with years of struggle behind him called the app a meaningful start.
Recurring complaints
- Sales pressure inside a paid app. The August 2025 Play reviewer described repeated "last chance" offers after paying; a May 2025 Play reviewer called the prompts aggressive.
- Confusing prices and no refunds. A May 2025 App Store reviewer listed unclear pricing, no refund outside lifetime, and an unlock phrase that rejected exact typing.
- Blocking gaps. A July 2025 App Store reviewer said sites had to be added by hand and VPN alerts fired wrongly. The May 2025 Play reviewer said blocking worked once and then stopped, and counted one blocked word, one site and one app before the paywall.
The developer replied to every review we read, usually asking the reviewer to email support.

Put simply: BlockerX is the stronger wall, and WINNR is built for the moment you are standing in front of the wall wanting to climb it, with your history intact and someone trained on the other side of the chat.
What the research says
Be careful with every company's claims, ours included. A 2022 content analysis in JMIR Formative Research reviewed 170 apps for problematic pornography use and found that none cited direct evidence of effectiveness or safety. That is still true of BlockerX, whose "scientifically proven" headline comes with no study, and it is true of WINNR. WINNR's science page says so plainly: nobody has checked whether WINNR works, and a small controlled study is planned once the app is live.
The methods WINNR builds on are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, with CBT elements, self-monitoring with goal setting and feedback, and if-then plans; the screener is the PPCS-6. The team also draws on the Dual Control Model of sexual response (Bancroft and Janssen), which describes arousal as a balance between excitation and inhibition, as a model to design around rather than as proof that WINNR works.
A blocker that works is not the same as a habit that has changed, so the question stays open for both. Neither app is a treatment, therapy or crisis service. If porn use is seriously hurting your life, a licensed therapist is worth adding to either one.
When WINNR is the better choice
- Your problem is the urge, not only the access. You want something for the 20 minutes when it hits, and a counter that does not punish the slip afterwards.
- You want your journal and posts kept in the EU, with every processor named and a delete button that works immediately.
- You want to talk to a trained person, not only an AI or a friend you nominated, and you cannot pay therapy prices.
- You do not want anyone emailed about what you tried to open.
- You are 15 to 17. WINNR is built for men from 15 up; BlockerX's terms require 18.
- You can wait until December 2026, or want to join now at the founding price.
When BlockerX is the better choice
- You need a blocker tonight on a laptop or desktop. WINNR has no desktop app and no browser extension.
- You want the blocker hard to remove: uninstall protection on Android, buddy approval before it switches off.
- You want one tool for porn, gambling, gaming, dating and social media apps together.
- You read in one of the 24 languages besides English that BlockerX supports.
- You want a mature product with hundreds of thousands of ratings, not a waiting list.
How to switch from BlockerX, or use both
If you are moving to WINNR
- Join the WINNR waiting list at winnr.now by taking the free 4-minute check. Your place and the founding price are reserved by email.
- Write down what BlockerX taught you. Open My Stats and note the times, sites and apps that come up most. WINNR's if-then plans are built around those triggers.
- Cancel renewal before you uninstall. Through Apple, in iOS Settings under Subscriptions; through Google, in Play subscriptions; through the website, email support@blockerx.org and ask for written confirmation. Nothing but lifetime is refundable, so time it for the end of your paid period.
- Tell your buddy first. On Android you may need their approval to remove the app; on iOS and Chrome they get an email when you try.
- Ask for deletion in writing. The policy describes deletion only for Codi history, so email support asking for your account, posts and partner data to be deleted, and keep the reply.
- Keep a blocker in the gap. Until December, use Screen Time's adult-site limit on iPhone or Private DNS with a family filter on Android. Our guide to the best porn blocker apps covers the free options.
If you want to use both
- BlockerX for the wall: the desktop apps, the extension, the uninstall protection.
- WINNR for the moment and the aftermath: the urge timer, the counter, the partner, the psychologist sessions once they open.
- Pick one app as your official counter so one slip does not become two broken records.
Key takeaways
- BlockerX is a live, well-rated blocker (4.4 on the App Store from 8,300 ratings, 4.4 on Google Play from about 317,000, 4.6 on Chrome) covering five platforms, with buddy approval and uninstall protection.
- Its price is inconsistent: 109.96 dollars a year on the website, lifetime at 199.97 or 129.82 dollars depending on the page, and App Store entries from 49.99 to 139.99 US dollars a year. Only lifetime is refundable.
- BlockerX's privacy policy does not say where your data is stored, names US analytics and AI providers, emails activity reports to your buddy, and does not mention GDPR; an unprotected database with about 72,000 user records was closed in August 2021.
- WINNR costs 9 euro a month or 49 euro a year, keeps data in the EU except for opt-in AI coach messages, keeps your full history after a slip, and reports to nobody.
- WINNR is not in the stores until December 2026, has no desktop app or extension, its psychologist access is in development, and it has no outcome data, like every app in this category.
FAQ
Is BlockerX free?
Partly. The free version blocks adult sites with limits on custom sites, keywords and apps; a May 2025 Google Play reviewer counted one of each. Network-level blocking, uninstall protection, the Panic Switch and unlimited blocklists need premium.
How much does BlockerX cost?
On blockerx.net, checked 25 October 2026: 109.96 dollars a year, or lifetime at 199.97 dollars on the premium page and 129.82 on the product pages. On the US App Store: 49.99 dollars a month, 49.99 to 139.99 a year, 149.99 or 179.99 lifetime. Only lifetime is refundable, within 3 days.
Does BlockerX block porn?
Yes, and that is its main strength: one switch across all phone browsers, incognito blocking on desktop, forced safe search, and a buddy who holds the key. Reviewers do report gaps: sites that needed adding by hand, blocking that stopped, false VPN alerts. No blocker is complete.
Is my data safe with BlockerX?
The policy does not state where data is stored or for how long, does not mention GDPR, and names US analytics providers, a survey SDK that collects your advertising ID, and Gemini or OpenAI models for Codi. The App Store label declares identifiers and usage data as used for tracking. In August 2021 a researcher found an unprotected database with about 72,000 user records, closed within hours. Your buddy receives emails about your device activity.
Is WINNR better than BlockerX?
Today, BlockerX is the only one you can download, and it is the better blocker by a distance: five platforms against WINNR's two, which go live in December 2026. From launch, WINNR offers EU data storage, a counter that does not reset after a slip, a matched partner with no monitoring, and a path to real psychologists at 49 euro a year. Neither app has published evidence that it works.
Can I use WINNR and BlockerX together?
Yes: BlockerX on the laptop and as the hard wall, WINNR for the urge, the counter and the partner. Keep one app as your main counter, and know that BlockerX may email your buddy while WINNR emails nobody.
Want a plan for your own pattern? Take the private 4-minute check. Fighting an urge right now? Open the urge page.
A note on what this is
WINNR makes this comparison and has a commercial interest in it. Prices, ratings and policies were checked on 25 October 2026 and can change; check the linked sources before you pay. This page is educational. It is not a diagnosis and it is not medical advice. WINNR is not a treatment or therapy. If porn use is seriously affecting your life, speak to a licensed professional; if you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services.
